Reporter Herald Article from 12/30/16

PictureDave Pierson jogs around Foote Lagoon on Thursday in downtown Loveland. The city of Loveland and the Loveland Chamber of Commerce is supporting My Big Day for the first Loveland Valentine's Day group wedding ceremony at Foote Lagoon. (Jenny Sparks / Loveland Reporter-Herald)
With a name like Loveland, a group wedding and renewal ceremony on Valentine's Day seems to be the perfect fit.
"There has been a big request for it for a lot of years," said Christine Kovacs Forster, president and events manager for My Big Day. The company organizes many events from life celebrations to corporate events as well as party planning, marketing and more.
The first Loveland Valentine's Day Group Wedding will begin with registration at 2 p.m. Feb. 14 in the Gertrude Scott Room at the Loveland Public Library. 300 N. Adams, Loveland. The ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Foote Lagoon Amphitheater in Civic Center Park, Third Street and Washington Avenue.

"We want people to still be able to see each other, and we can still take photos," Forster said of the time as the sun should set about 5:30 p.m. that day.
The ceremony will be officiated by K99's Morning Show host, Todd Harding.
The cost is $30 per person to participate, which does not include a marriage license. Couples getting married must get their own marriage license prior to the event and must bring it with their IDs to registration.
Those renewing their vows will only need to purchase tickets and present IDs at registration.
Ticket cost includes a few gifts for the newlyweds. Along with the certificate signed by the officiant, they will get a personalized photo by Memorybox Photos, cupcakes from B Sweet Cupcakes, a gift bag and a chance to win a large gift basket.

"There are still a lot of partners working on what we want in that gift basket but it will be all things Northern Colorado," she said. The gift bag and gift basket items will be from local places to encourage participants to visit local businesses either between the registration and the ceremony or after.

"We will cut (tickets) off the morning of the wedding," Forster said. The company has not put a limit on how many tickets will be available but the ceremony will not exceed the 300-seat capacity of the venue.
"It's really for the couples, not large groups of spectators," Forster said. Couples are asked not to bring family or friends to witness the unions so there is enough room for all couples.
The event joins many traditions for Loveland in February including the valentine remailing program, Fire and Ice Festival, the annual valentine coffee and beer, Miss Valentine and more.

"It's an exciting collaboration between our entities to help highlight the valentine initiative and build this energy around the Sweetheart City," said Mindy McCloughan, president and CEO of the Loveland Chamber of Commerce.
Forster said it will be a great opportunity for couples to do something different on Valentine's Day.
"It's just a really unique way to celebrate Valentine's Day without thinking of another kind of gift," she said. There is the added bonus that it provides an alternative wedding option.
"It's an affordable way to get married for folks that want to say I do who may run to courthouse if that's there only option, far more romantic than the courthouse," Forster said.

Foote Lagoon will be decorated for the occasion. Couples will receive a survey following their ticket purchase to vote for their favorite wedding song and readings to make the event a little more personal. The top choices in songs will be performed by Brandon Sipes at the ceremony.
Forster hopes this will become a tradition for Loveland and that couples will take advantage of this first year.
"It's always great to say that you did something in the first year, that you were part of it from the beginning," she said.

In its third year, My Big Date represents three various outings on Valentine’s Day weekend in Loveland, Colorado including a brunch and brew tour, a spirits tour and, new this year, a VIP brunch and brew tour.

Each tour is provided transportation on NOCO Short Bus Tours, LLC, a brewery tour service founded by Mechelle Martz-Mayfield. Colorado travel writer and promotor Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer, founder of HeidiTown.com, rounds out the three woman trio behind My Big Date.

“We want to make it easy for folks to enjoy Loveland on Valentine’s Day weekend. We provide the transportation, food and drinks so that guests can just sit back and enjoy the experience and enjoy each other,” said Martz-Mayfield.

There are three packages available this year, and space is limited.

The founders of My Big Date polled last year’s participants and 100% of guests who responded stated that they would take the tour again.

“My Big Date,” a Valentine’s Day getaway in Loveland, Colorado

Loveland, Colorado January 2, 2015– It’s been the sweetheart city since 1877, and now there is a great reason to make Loveland, Colorado your destination this Valentine’s Day. Three Loveland-based, female owned businesses have created My Big Date, a tasty escape to the Sweetheart City.

“Loveland has been a destination for art lovers for many years, but we want people to realize that the town is the perfect Valentine’s Day destination,” said Christine Kovacs Forster, founder of My Big Day Events, LLC, an event planning company in Loveland.

Last year, Ms. Forster, Mechelle Martz-Mayfield, owner of NOCO Short Bus Tours, LLC, a brewery tour service, and Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer, founder of HeidiTown.com, the place for Colorado festival and travel stories, came together to create My Big Date.

There are two packages available this year, and space is limited.

The Brunch & Brew package is available on February 14 and 15, 2014. This package includes a coffee tasting at Loco Artisan Coffeehouse, a beer and brunch pairing at Loveland Aleworks and a beer tasting paired with B. Sweet Cupcakes at Crow Hop Brewing Transportation between venues will be provided by NOCO Short Bus Tours, LLC.

The second package is a Brewery & Spirits Tour available on February 14, 2014, only. This includes a tour and tasting at Spring 44 Distillery, a tasting flight at Crow Hop Brewing, a tasting flight at Loveland Aleworks and a stop at B. Sweet Cupcakes for a treat. Transportation between venues will be provided by NOCO Short Bus Tours, LLC.

Both packages include time for guests to stroll through Loveland’s Fire & Ice winter festival that takes place annually in downtown Loveland over Valentine’s Day weekend.

“My Big Date is a great way to introduce people to Loveland,” said Martz-Mayfield. “It’s an introduction to our active brewery scene, our distillery scene and an opportunity to show off downtown.”

All 42 participants will receive a gift bag filled with Loveland swag, such as coupons, beer tokens, chocolate and more.  In addition, each couple will also receive the book entitled, “14 Days of Foreplay,” by marriage and family therapist, Monica L. Lieser.

“My hope is that these two packages will entice people across the Front Range to come experience Loveland this Valentine’s Day. I believe that once they discover what Loveland has to offer, they’ll make future outings here,” said Kerr-Schlaefer.

“I want My Big Date to put Loveland on the map as a destination town,” she added.

Three Northern Colorado businesses roll out “My Big Date Night,” a Valentine’s Day getaway in Loveland

Loveland, Colorado January 7, 2014 – It’s been the sweetheart city since 1877, and now there is a great reason to make Loveland, Colorado your destination this Valentine’s Day.  Three Loveland-based businesses have come together to create My Big Date Night, a package that includes dining, beer and spirit tasting and an overnight stay at one of three local hotels.

"Loveland has been an art destination for years, but we also want people to realize it’s a wonderful Valentine’s Day destination,” said Christine Kovacs Forster, founder of My Big Day Events, LLC, an event planning company in Loveland. Ms. Forster, along with Mechelle Martz-Mayfield, owner of NOCO Short Bus Tours, LLC, a brewery tour service, and Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer, founder of HeidiTown.com, the place for Colorado festival and travel information, came together to create My Big Date Night.

The package is available on February 14th and 15th and again on February 21st and 22nd, with brewery tours available on Fridays and distillery tours available on Saturdays. Each package includes transportation, tasters at each stop and an overnight stay including dinner for two at La Quinta Inn, Best Western or Embassy Suites.

“The prices vary depending on which hotel you choose,” said Martz-Mayfield. “Embassy Suites is offering a decadent meal just for this event, so a stay with them will be more expensive, however, all the versions are affordable at between $226 and $325. There’s even a $150 option with dinner and the brewery or distillery tour only, but our hope is that people will make a weekend out of it and will stay overnight.”

Other package amenities include a gift bag stuffed with offers from local businesses and a cupcake at the end of the night from B Sweet Cupcakes in downtown Loveland.

“This is about fun and romance in the Sweetheart City,” said Kerr-Schlaefer. “It will be a memorable way for folks from across the Front Range to experience Loveland, and hopefully they will be inspired to come back to experience it again and again.”
